The Funny Man

The funny man came on every channel tonight.

He opened with a joke, and the crowd laughed like they were paid to. But between the punchlines, he slipped in promises shaped like threats.

His sharp sarcasm was wrapped in applause.

At home, no one moved.

It’s hard to tell an audience to be afraid

when the man on the screen is still smiling.
